Culivating Curiosity: A nudge and a resource

The checklist. The never ending to do’s. The pressures to perform.

Let’s face it, these are all factors that lure us towards “getting things done” and distract us from planning with a mindset and a sense of curiosity, wonder and awe.

A popular question I receive from both classroom teachers and leaders is, where do I even begin?

And while there are nuances to the implementation of these moves that requires intentional planning and reflection, sometimes, we just need a nudge to give it a try and see what unfolds when we lean into curiosity.

  • Maybe we a vibrant energy and engagement with out learners that wasn’t present there before?

  • Maybe we notice a sense of curiosity that opens our senses to something that was once over looked?

  • Maybe we notice a connection with our learners that creates a space that gives us a change to explore with one another and find out more about stretches and stretches as a learning community?

With these “maybes” in mind, I wanted to share a playful resource created with my critical friend, Trevor MacKenzie.

Perhaps you are at the tail end of the year and want to try some things with your learners to experiment and see “what happens when…” or the questions you’ve read above are giving you space to pause and reflect and rethink your plans for Monday morning? Or, maybe you’re a leader beginning to scope out and plan the start of your academic year rooted in a value that synonymous with inquiry?

Either way, I’m hoping you get playful with it. I hope you see its structure as one that sparks your curiosity and even one that catapults your thinking and professional practice in new domains you have not explored.
