Leading With a Lens of Inquiry

Leading with a Lens of Inquiry is about rethinking our approach to the adult learners in our buildings. It’s about having fun. It’s about asking questions. It’s about considering the value of a shared leadership approach that empowers our teachers to continually reflect and refine their teaching practice. It’s about responding to the needs, learning styles and interests of those we lead the same way we did as teachers in the classroom.

Typical models of training and professional development focus on telling. It’s a model that far too often trickles down to classrooms, where the traditional way of "doing school" limits the way educators teach and students learn. Fortunately, there is a better way to learn: through wonder, agency, and inquiry.

From Leading with a Lens of Inquiry administrators, educational instructors, and peer leaders learn how to cultivate learning spaces that ignite curiosity and inspire critical thinking in adult and student learners alike.

Educational Coordinator and Instructional Coach Jessica Vance shares her hands-on experience as an inquiry leader in this powerful and thought-provoking book. Outlining the six dispositions of an inquiry educator and then modeling the inquiry mindset, she provides leaders with practical and effective ways to bring learner voice, reflection, and better learning experiences to professional development—and to the classroom.

Join administrators, educational instructors, and peer leaders and learn how to cultivate learning spaces that ignite curiosity and inspire critical thinking in adult and student learners alike.

This book is for you if you are wondering:

What would happen if I created spaces that truly honored the agency of all learners?

How do I inspire my learners’ curiosity and take an active role in the process of learning?

What’s possible in our schools if we all led with an inquiry mindset?

Jessica’s  journey and experience as an inquiry educator fuel her passion and global work in coaching both teachers and leaders in their roles across a variety of rich contexts. She understands the power of curiosity and how we can leverage it to guide our next steps, creating the space we all need as learners as we actively engage in a reflective practice. In her bestselling book Leading with a Lens of Inquiry (published by Elevate Books Edu) she outlines the ways in which we as leaders can support and facilitate teachers in the same ways we want our teachers to engage with their students: through a lens of inquiry.
